London’s private members' clubs for children

Words by Keven Amfo

The winter months can seem impossible when it comes to keeping gate children entertained, as outdoor activities aren’t possible. During this time, a membership to a children’s private members club can be a godsend—the entire family can descend upon the club for an entire day, and everyone can be fed and entertained—and kept warm.

Maggie kids

Maggie & Rose

Offering a place for families to relax, alongside camps and classes for children of all ages, this pioneering club now has six locations across London and Asia. Their Chiswick and Kensington locations have full-service cafes with healthy options for both children and adults, and the wide range of creative classes offer something that will appeal to everyone. Their newest club in Islington, opening in February, will feature a co-working space for adults to use whilst the children play.

Cupcake

Cupcake Family Club

This Fulham club has a fitness-focus, aiming to enable new parents the ability to exercise whilst the children are being looked after. With classes up to age five, plus a drop-off creche, parents in the area love Cupcake. The range of classes includes music, messy play, and all types of crafts. Parents can exercise with or without their babies—the CariFit workout involves aerobic exercise, while you wear your baby in a carrier.

George Junior

George

A popular and coveted membership for adults, George now offers the younger generation their own membership with their own set of benefits. The George Junior Membership features special events, newsletters, games, and more for children. They have input on the club’s menu, and a Kid’s Committee where they can interact and make friends with their fellow members. A charitable and conscious component is also present—recently, they met to discuss plastic waste.

This club has had a waiting list since it opened. The massive Chelsea space offers everything from a swimming pool to mini golf to language lessons to cooking classes, all under one roof. There are many classes and activities for parents and children to enjoy together, but plenty of options as well if a break is needed. The in-house concierge team handles requests throughout the day, making sure everyone is enjoying themselves and happy.

Cloudtwelve

Cloud 12

A newcomer to Notting Hill, this club features primarily eco-friendly and sustainable furniture and toys, and is decorated using the principals of Feng Shui. It has a slew of elevated offerings geared toward parents—not to say the children are forgotten, however. The plant-based brasserie serves delicious food all day, and there is a separate children’s cafe and lounge. The focussed wellness offerings appeal to the whole family—there is a comprehensive spa—with sauna, steam, and salt rooms—and a full-service salon as well. The crèche is fully stocked with myriad activities, and should your child become attached to their caregiver, their services can often be hired for the home.
