Whether you’re able to travel now or are waiting for the future, these are our picks for a holiday that relaxes and restores.

Whilst much of the world remains closed to travel, we're looking forward optimistically to when we can get away. If we in the UK could travel now, here are the places we would be going. After an indulgent holiday season, it feels instinctual to start the year off in a fresher way, restoring and refreshing our mind, body and spirit in anticipation of the year ahead. These are some of our favourite places that truly maximise those sentiments, each with their own effective rejuvenation methodology.

Should you be reading from somewhere travel is currently permitted: godspeed.

Arcticbath

Arctic Bath, Swedish Lapland

With a dramatic setting under the Northern Lights, this hotel and spa utilises the wonders of nature to pamper and increase guests' general wellness. Cold baths, saunas, and various massage types incorporate indigenous Swedish herbs to expand the senses and heal the body.

Each of the stylish floating cabins exemplifies Scandinavian style and exudes quiet luxury. The onsite restaurant is local and sustainable, featuring a Swedish classics menu with wellness and health in mind.

The woodward 2

The Woodward, Geneva

This all-suite hotel boasts incredible lake and mountain views which create an instant feeling of serenity. Individually decorated with details such as marble fireplaces and libraries, a stay here feels like home in the best ways – and is truly relaxing.

The onsite Wellness Institute by Guerlain hosts a 1200sqm spa and various sauna and steam rooms, whilst the only European outpost of health-conscious Michelin-starred Le Jardinier restaurant spotlights vegetables and is primarily vegan and gluten-free.

Reschio 7

Reschio Estate, Umbria

Consisting of nine houses that dot the Umbrian countryside, this escape is imbued with otherworldly history. A stay here is genuinely transportive, meaning full relaxation is guaranteed – you can really forget everyday life. All details are taken care of, so all that's left for guests to do is explore the surrounding areas, eat, drink fabulous wine (from the estate itself) and rest.

A Bathhouse, created in Ancient Roman style, sits below one of the buildings. The cosy and steamy retreat features saltwater pools, marble benches, a tropical rain shower and a bespoke treatment menu, customised and created for each guest dependent on their needs.

Buxton 1

Buxton Crescent, UK

Celebrated for its special thermal waters, since Roman times, Buxton Crescent is a peaceful retreat that utilises its finest natural resource. Traditional hydrotherapy pairs with luxury spa treatments, including an ice fountain, salt cave, mineral baths, massages and facials, plus beauty treatments.

The renovated rooms and suites nod to the area's remarkable history while incorporating modern amenities. The healthy cuisine utilises local, seasonal produce and complements the wellness experience; a beautifully designed bar beckons unwinding with a glass of wine.
